4 quilts and a runner...

I do not get where the time has flown to! It's the end of the year!

It has also been a while since I last posted a quilt here but believe me, a lot has happened. I started with Sarie's quilt and then we joined my husband on one of his work trips to the South Coast (Margate, Kwazulu-Natal) for 2 1/2 weeks. Bliss! We returned home on the 22nd of November and I had to complete Sarie's quilt before going into hospital on the 26th of November for a gall bladder operation! Well, I made it! Just!

Sarie made these candlewick blocks back in the 80's / 90's when it was such a huge craze in SA (we all made some). She dug them out of the cupboard and I helped with a plan to make this quilt. The sashes are all pieced strips in pink and cream with green corner blocks to match the candlewick work. I have used a polyester batting with a taffeta backing fabric in cream to match.

To say this quilt was challenging is an understatement. The blocks had batting and a muslin behind already, the sashes had none. And the block battings varied in thickness, was a mission, but accomplished! Sarie is extremely happy!

So after my surgery I took a week off to recover. Then came the next project, a white Egyptian Cotton runner for the bridal suite of a guesthouse in Bothaville, Freestate, South Africa. I LOVED this quilt! And so does the client.

I have also completed another two quilts for one of my regular clients Anna...

And the last client quilt for 2013 was one for Donna.

Sjoe! Whaow! Phew! Next year is going to be a great one! I already have 21 client quilt bookings! 4 Guild gatherings to put up a stall, 2 or 3 exhibitions, a show quilt to complete and studying towards a SA Quilt Teachers Accreditation. So I'm enjoying the last week of holidays and then it's Go Time again!
May you strive towards excellence and may you prosper in 2014!

Marian's quilt #3

Enters Marian Senekal with her perfect patchwork and applique again. I love quilting for Marian and I have previously done 2 other quilts for her.

This is a kaleidoscope quilt originally from a book but I assisted her in customizing the design to suit her needs.

Happy quilting!

Eldorette's quilts

Eldorette made this beautiful quilt in my Mixed Class for her table top. She then asked that I quilt it for her...

Yvonne's quilts

Oh how the time flies!!!  I've been busy, busy, busy...

This is two quilts I did for Yvonne's grand daughters. Loved them!

The pics below are from Yvonne. She also made matching pillow case with machine embroidered designs on for the girls.

Colleen's Cat Quilt

So after I have finished Anna's Cat Quilt, I received Colleen's Cat Quilt...just to add something. She had already completed the quilt, binding, ditch work and straight line quilting all done. I just added the scroll featherly corners. I love it! Hope Colleen loves it too!

I did these corners completely free-motion on my little Bernina Activa 210.

Anna de Klerk's Cat Quilt

I had such fun with this quilt!!! It's a small quilt, raw-edge applique cats.

I have used a fleshy pink Isacord Polyester Thread to quilt the back ground of all the blocks and an olive green for the sashes.

2 different FMQ patterns for the 2 back ground colours.

Approx 30 hours of quilting and 3000m of thread in this quilt. This quilt can actually stand on its own!

Anna is very happy with her quilt. She booked her spot for another quilt!

I'm extremely pleased with this quilt!

Happy quilting!

Beryl's quilt 2

I have done this quilt fro Beryl a couple of weeks ago. I used a black Isacord thread for the quilting but you can't see anything because o the bright patterned fabric!
Happy Quilting!

So in between the Dear Jane Quilt I have played around with some free motion quilting on white Egyptian Cotton and then applied colour to one side...

I will be presenting a workshop on this at the end of July at Bernina Ontdekkers, Roodepoort, Gauteng, South Africa.  Email me if you are interested.
Happy Quilting!
